Overview

The best way to choose a suitable product for your boyfriend is to consider his personality and the kind of relationship you have. Think about whether he’d appreciate the gesture or not and whether you want to be affectionate, mean or funny.

Of course, it depends on what you’re trying to achieve: do you want him to feel loved or picked on?

I go into more detail in the following sections.

What is he like as a person?

Is he sensitive or is he robust? Is he playful or serious?

If he’s a sensitive lad, it might be worth being nice and buying him something sweet and affectionate. He might like it if you gently tease him, but you probably shouldn’t go too far.

If on the other hand, he’s a tough cookie, I expect he’ll enjoy something more direct such as one of our ‘affectionate’ birthday cards.

And then of course there’s the question of whether he’s playful or more sensible. The answer to this will help you decide whether you should get him something funny or just something plain and simple.

So, have a think about these points and have a look at the sort of things we sell, I’m sure you’ll find something suitable.

What sort of relationship do you have with him?

There’s a big difference between giving something sweet and affectionate compared with giving a gift that is mean and offensive. The thing that will help you decide is how long you’ve been together and the sort of things you usually say to each other.

If it’s a new relationship, I suggest playing it safe and giving something gentle that won’t offend him in any way – although, depending on what sort of person he is (see above), he might like being picked on a bit!

On the other hand, if you’ve been together years then I’m sure anything goes! You probably know what sort of sense of humour he has by now so whether it’s something cute or offensive, I’m sure you’ll get it right.

How do I choose?

The most important thing is to think about what sort of person your boyfriend is and how long you’ve been together. If it’s early days then play it safe (or not!) but if not then I think anything goes!
