Overview
It’s easy to say what a rude gift is, it’s something that you wouldn’t give to a friend or family member.
However, I think the more useful question is why you would want to give a rude present. Once we’ve worked that out, we can discuss how to choose the right one.
As always, if you want help with this, just get in touch and we can discuss it.
What is a rude gift?
I suppose the answer is obvious but, as with most things, it depends on the context. The simple answer is that it’s something that uses strong language or refers to something inappropriate.
The thing is though, some people are okay with things like this and others aren’t; we’re all different. For example, some people would be delighted to receive a pair of socks that have something naughty printed on them and others would be disgusted and offended – maybe even angry.
So yes the answer seems obvious at first but when you think about it there isn’t really a standard definition of what counts as rude. A lot of people ask me about presents for their boyfriend or girlfriend and I always have to ask them what sort of thing they would like – there’s no point suggesting something without knowing what sort of person they are!
Why do you want to buy a rude gift?
This is the most important question and I’m sure you know the answer! You probably want to give something funny that will make them laugh. That’s usually the main reason; something playful that will make them giggle. Of course, sometimes people just want to offend someone but I hope this isn’t the case for you!
As mentioned above though, what counts as an offensive or playful present depends on who they are so it comes down to your judgement. If you know them well enough you’ll be able to guess how they’re likely to react but if not then ask one of their friends.
It’s also worth thinking about where they’ll open their present; if it’s in front of other people then giving one of our products might not be such a good idea!
What sort of thing should you buy?
Again this depends on who they are but also whether they’ll open their present in public or not. If so I’d suggest getting something fairly innocuous like some socks with some words printed on the bottom – at least they can keep their shoes on!
On the other hand if it’s for your partner and you want them to open it when nobody else is around then you have much more choice. There are plenty of things which might suit but as mentioned before, just get in touch and we can chat about what might work for them.
