The best birthday present for your gay lover is something that will help you both have fun and create some happy memories. It’s useful for it to be something that you can both enjoy, although it’s fine if it’s something only for them as long as you can share the experience.

It’s really not unusual for someone to get offended by receiving (or giving) an innocent gift; sometimes just because it’s from us. I can’t really get my head around why but sometimes people get upset by it so please be sure that your lover will appreciate whatever you get for them.
Of course if they don’t then we’re happy for them (or you) to return the thing (as long as it’s not used or damaged), but that does seem rather unnecessary.
