Who is Jen Jenivive?

Jen is the hilarious mastermind behind a series of naughty parody books that look like they’re for kids, but are definitely for grown-ups!

With her sharp wit, brilliant storytelling, and playful illustrations, she’s turning childhood nostalgia on its head.

To get to know her better, we had a very serious and sensible interview, have a look at what she had to say:

What inspired you to write books that look like they’re for kids but are hilariously not?

I had been a fan of naughty adult humour books for a while, and my brain was full of ideas. Last year I wrote a list of book ideas in the notes on my phone and it wasn’t until this year that I felt ready to start writing stories.

How would you describe your books to someone who has no sense of humour?

I would describe them as ‘books that are packed full of tongue in cheek innuendos that only adults will understand’

Are there any particular topics you’d never touch in a book, or is nothing off limits?

Nothing is off limits!

If one of your books accidentally ended up at a kids’ library, what title would cause the most chaos?

Definitely either The Creampie or The Facial!

If you could write a parody kids’ book about your own life, what would the title be?

Such a tough question! Either: ‘Jen’s Jugs’ or depending on my mood maybe ‘Stressed, Depressed, but a great chest!’

Who do you think is the perfect audience for your books?

The perfect audience would be adults with a silly, cheeky sense of humour that laugh at naughty innuendos

Do you think there’s a secret adult desire for kids’ books? Are we all craving a naughty version of “The Gruffalo”?

Yes! 100%. Maybe it should be called ‘The Muffalo’.

If you could collaborate with any other writer, artist, or brand, who would it be and why?

Brad Gosse, 100%! He is a big inspiration to me and I love his books.

What’s next? Do you have any wild book ideas that you’re just waiting to unleash on the world?

I’m currently putting together my next book which is called ‘The Pearl Necklace’ I can’t wait for people to read it!
