Overview
The best thing to get for any gay person is something that is funny and makes them feel valued. The worst thing to get, which unfortunately is what most people do, is something pink or rainbow themed. Anyone who thinks this is just a fool that believes the stereotype that all gay people like pink and rainbows.
What to avoid
As I mentioned above, most people seem to think that if someone is gay they must like pink things, or that anything with a rainbow on it will be perfect for them. This is simply not true.
If you know the person well enough to buy them a card or gift then you should know what sort of thing they like, so just get something based on what they actually like.
This applies to anyone, regardless of whether they are gay or not. If you do know the person well enough then just get them something silly that will make them laugh. Or maybe the sort of thing that will offend them – again you should know this if you know them well enough.
What sort of thing should I buy?
As I said above, just think about the sort of person they are and get them something based on that. If it helps we can break down the possibilities into three categories:
1) They are easily offended and sensitive
In this case you might want to go for something gentle and safe as a gift, but maybe something playful for the card; after all the worst that can happen with a card is that they throw it away!
2) They have an average sense of humour
With most people this is the case, so in this situation you can probably get away with buying pretty much anything.
3) They have a very open mind and pretty much never take offence at anything
In this case you can have some fun – whether it’s a prank card or gift or just something funny, whatever you choose I’m sure they’ll appreciate it!
